Deya Thorin, artist
Growing up in the Dominican Republic, I spent my formative years living in a sea of colors. Yes, of course there was actually an ocean by my city, but the waters of creativity I lived in was the culture of the tropics. The happy beat of merengue, the brightly painted buildings, the refreshing smell of humid sea air—elements so stereotypical that if you close your eyes you can almost feel the Caribbean sun on your skin. Yet this is in my blood.
It is only natural that my view of the world has been forever filtered by those dyed waves still flowing through my veins.
And from my veins the colors flow—ever, ever outward—on to canvas from the brush, the language of my soul. Each brushstroke is a word that means a thousand words, each painting is a story that can never be retold.
After immigrating to the United States, raising six children, and working as a model and fashion consultant, I began painting as an outlet for my desire to continue creating. My artwork has been displayed at many public venues and exhibits in the midwest and I have only recently started to sell my pieces. This site is a place for old friends and new friends alike to come, stop for a while, and feel inspired. Should you like to purchase a painting, I pass on my blessing with my art: may the waters of my vision bathe your home with joy.
